Christmas in August

Let's just pretend that I haven't talked to you in a long time, and you were wondering how my family was doing.  (Not so hard to imagine, given how good I've been at keeping in touch recently...)  Here's what I would tell you.

The Merrill family has recently increased by 20% with the addition of Samuel Norman Merrill on December 28th, 2012.  The little punk wouldn't wait until January, so we wouldn't have to pay our insurance deductible twice :)  He's a big 7-month old now who sits up, crawls forward-ish, and smiles at everyone.  I mean, everyone.  He's the ultimate people-person.  Will this last?  I'm excited to find out!

Tomorrow is the first day of school for Lige and Ellis.  Lige is starting 3rd grade, Ellis is in 1st.  They both like school a lot, and are very successful academically.  They're also learning piano and ASL, as well as Lige being in Cub Scouts.

Lillian is learning to play the recorder.  She's got music in her soul, but she was too young to start piano, so we bought her a recorder and a book, and Mom gives her lessons.  She has another year until she starts Kindergarten.

Marriner just got done being furloughed at work because of the sequester.  Fortunately, it was reduced from 21 days originally down to 6.  Wahoo!  Working for the government is sometimes frustrating, but his job is going well.  He's keeping busy being a high councilor at church.

Christine just got done being PTA president, is doing a lot of landscaping (on our house we bought last fall - LOVE it!), and trying to recover from a rotten pregnancy and frustrating complications after.  It turns out that 4 kids keeps me busier that 3 kids :)  I'm leading the singing for the children at church, which is wonderfully fun!

Well, that's it!  Now you know what's up with us!  If you come visit us, you can hear more details, and we'll even give you free lodging for a vacation in DC!

Love, Christine and family
