It's for your own good, dang it!

Yesterday in Sacrament meeting, the subject was "Covenants".  One of the speakers asked the proverbial question, "How well are we keeping our baptismal covenant to always remember the Savior?  How often do we really think about Jesus Christ throughout the course of our day?"  I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I've actually been doing a really great job of that recently!  Why?  I've been looking for opportunities to share the gospel with others!

Yes, you read that correctly:  Missionary work has helped me keep my baptismal covenant!

I never thought that being a missionary was part of my covenant, per se.  I knew that I need to "stand as a witness of God at all times" but that's not quite the same as declaring the gospel...maybe it is.   But here's my great realization:  Christ isn't asking me to share the gospel for my neighbor's sake, it's for my benefit - so I can always remember Him.  This answers the question of why on earth God doesn't just send an angel to all my neighbors...that would be a lot faster and easier.  But, He loves me enough to let me do it instead.

Just like when I tell my kids to make their own peanut butter sandwiches :)
